A New BeginningAfter a lot of discussion and much agonising, the reformed Sibford Old Scholars Association started on 1st August 2009. We are sure that the Association has been tailored to suit the needs of the twenty-first century. Whilst maintaining its traditions and values we have also established closer links with the School. The bond between old and new has always been paramount in our philosophy and with this new adventure we are certain the links will grow stronger. Our Reunion this year was held during the School's Open Day on June 13th, and it proved to be a great success where we also enjoyed perfect weather - a rare event for this summer! A report of the Reunion and a copy of the AGM Minutes are available on this website and will be reported fully in the next SOSA Newsletter.
Meet the PresidentThe following extract is taken from 'The Sibfordian'.
I started at Sibford in 1959, following in my father Donald's footsteps, who was there from 1934 to 1938. He enjoyed talking about his time at school and at exeat weekends we compared his time at Sibford with mine, both recounting our fortune to have been taught by Gladys Burgess. My sister, Nicola, came to Sibford in 1961. As we left home on her first day Dad told me to ask the Bursar if he could have a fee discount as there were two of us at the School. I duly asked but I don't think the Bursar was too impressed as there was not discount! My brother Graham, started at Sibford in September 1964 as I left in the July, so there was a ten year span of Hughes's. Another comfort was to be located in Holmby House, which was then the junior boys accommodation, and being looked after by Miriam Guest. In September 1960 we moved into the new boys houses, and I was in Penn. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Sibford, especially the opportunities to play a lot of sport. My links with the School were firmly re-established in 2008, when I was appointed to the School Committee as one of SOSA's representatives. Richard Hughes - President of SOSA
